Lately we have been tweeting and blogging about a SevOne announcement that is coming. The time is finally here. Early this morning, SevOne announced v5. Here are some of the key new features of v5:

During a worldwide recession that has seen many of the established network management vendors fall to the wayside, and the virtual abandonment of new development in the network equipment management software portfolios, SevOne has grown rapidly. A question we are often asked is, “How scalable is scalable?” Every product out there seems to put the scalability badge on their packaging, but what does it really mean? Even SMB offerings like SolarWinds make these claims, although their unlimited license comes with the fine print that up to 10K elements can safely be supported. Offerings from the Big 4 vendors do not come with such restrictions, but that does not mean they lack hard limitations (as any seasoned IT operations person will tell you).

At SevOne, things are taken quite a bit further - what we aim to deliver is ‘speed-at-scale.‘ This is a mantra that is meant to guarantee that even as our product is asked to scale to unrepresented levels (in the 10 million element range), it will continue to operate with the same speed as it did during the initial lab test or proof of concept deployment. And here is where we have delivered real-world proof. At our largest deployment, the SevOne cluster of systems is managing over three million elements - this is over 60TB of performance data. And another SevOne customer will soon surpass this deployment size and have over 100TB of data under management. SevOne is not resting, though. We are already working hard on an internal initiative called the pCluster which will ensure that as our customers continue to grow, there is a tested path to over a petabyte of performance management data, while maintaining the same collection and reporting speed. This “big management data” set is an order of magnitude more than any of our competitors are even contemplating in their roadmaps.

Combined with the industry’s broadest selection of supported monitoring and data collection technologies, this scalability is quickly making SevOne the system of choice for world class service providers and large enterprises. We have seized market leadership momentum from the established vendors such as CA, HP and IBM, increasing our market share in North America, and quickly growing into Europe and Asia. While not trivial, figuring out what’s going on with networking equipment is fairly straightforward. There are a finite number of interfaces, some memory, and a few CPUs with a small number of processes running, performing a very limited set of actions.

On Monday, SevOne had another special visitor, U.S. Senator for Delaware, Chris Coons. You might remember our blog back in July, when Delaware Governor Jack Markell stopped by our headquarters in Wilmington, DE. Senator Coons sat down with our SevOne executives, and a member of our board of directors, to discuss IT technology and our growth and success in the network performance management market.
