The topic of agility is near and dear to my heart. I have watched organizations, with amazing products and people, fail. I can’t help but feel the reason for this is a misunderstanding and/or a lack of value in agility. Agility is not something only afforded by the start-up, nor is agility defined by the small company that quickly reacts to a few or new customers. Instead, agility means something different to each part of the organization and should be something we strive to achieve.

IT Consumerization is not a new phrase. The tendency for new information technology to emerge first in the consumer market and then spread to business and government organizations has been a trend for years. Business applications continue to mimic the social and mobile traits that define the consumer technology market.

NetFlix announced last week, its first original series, House of Cards. According to a recent NYTimes article, the first 13 episodes of House of Cards are already available on NetFlix. This upfront investment – much different than the way standard TV shows are produced - is a foreshadowing of what’s to come for streaming Internet television. The reality is DVD and BluRay relevance is changing, the way the relevance of physical books changed with the Kindle, Nook and tablets. And now it seems traditional television broadcasting is also being challenged by online video from companies like NetFlix, Amazon Prime, HBO Go and Hulu.

There is truth to the statement, your network is your business. There's also truth to the statement, your business is only as good as your network. And the last statement of truth is, social media is now one of the original sources of information, more specifically Twitter.
